The amazing views at Cape Rachado Lighthouse
Cape Rachado, also known as ‘Tanjung Tuan’, is popularly known for its lighthouse. From Tanjung Tuan, you will need to climb up to a hiking trail to reach Cape Rachado Lighthouse. Although it will be quite a steep climb, but once you are up there, you will not regret it!
How did Cape Rachado Lighthouse got its name? Its name was actually originated from the Portuguese word ‘broken cap’. The name came about after Malacca was conquered by the colonial Portuguese forces. The lighthouse was then built in the year 1528 to guide their own vessels safely to the port and at the same time, it served to keep track and look out for any enemy ships. Today, this historical importance lighthouse is still present, but with an enhanced and modernized look to it.
Cape Rachado Lighthouse has become a favourite spot for bird watching especially during their migratory season. You will get a chance to see some beautiful species of migratory birds, like buzzards, falcons, eagles, hawks, vultures, and harriers from the top.
Moreover, reaching the peak of this magnificent lighthouse leads you to breathtaking views of lushes’ forests, admirable sea views, granite outcrops along the beautiful coast and amazing views of the Straits of Melaka. You can definitely get a good view of nature’s beauty from up here, and it will look even better as the sun begins to set!
After going to the lighthouse, you can walk down a path, which will lead you to the blue lagoon beach. Tajung Tuan is definitely more than just a wildlife sanctuary and forest reserves, there are many mysteriously beautiful beaches and mangrove swamps around the area, which you can hike to if you would like to visit. But please ensure that you carry lots of water with you to keep yourself hydrated at all times.
